Taxi protest heading to office of regulator

Tomorrow’s planned protest by Taxi Drivers For Change looks set to go ahead as previously blogged. Drivers will be taking their protest to the office of the Taxi Regulator on Fitzwilliam Square, Dublin 2 around lunch time tomorrow causing traffic in the city centre to be severly disrupted. The TDFC group are calling on SIPTU (trade union representing other taxi driver unions) to organise a protest for Friday morning at 7am at Dublin Airport however this has not been confirmed as going ahead by SIPTU or its’ members.

Conflicting reports regarding how many taxis are expected to participate in the city centre protest suggest between 1,000 and 3,000 taxis will take to the streets. A debate over tomorrow’s protest is ongoing at the Irish Taxi blog and the Taxi Eire forum.
