Today’s strike: CPSU

CPSU strikers outside government buildings

According to some 13,000 members of the CPSU (Civil Public & Services Union) are striking today nationwide in protest against the government cutbacks and pension levy. This means that in many (or possibly even any) parts of the country, you can’t get any social welfare payments, get an emergency passport, get in touch with the Revenue or visit the National Museums among many other services.

About 1,000 are to picket government buildlings this afternoon. I snapped this photo at about 1pm today where I only saw a handful picketing outside the passport applications office and up to 30 outside government buildlings.

I saw a few of those pickets, too – they seemed a bit bored though and generally didnt appear to know what to do. I am going to resist making a public service comment here…

If we are going to get our economy back on track, everybody needs to dig in, including Public Sector Workers! Striking is not the way to go.
Down with that sort of thing!
